Record Breaking Attendance Expected at the 8th Annual Indian Festival & Pow-Wow
Stone Mountain Park hosts four-day Native American Festival

Stone Mountain, GA – Guests can discover the culture, traditions and history of the Native Americans at the 8th Annual Stone Mountain Park Indian Festival & Pow-Wow, Nov. 1-4. The four-day event surrounds guests with the customs of Native Americans through dance & drum competitions, music, authentic craft demonstrations, cooking samples and storytelling. The festival, held at the Antebellum Plantation & Farmyard, is the Southeast’s premier event of its kind.

The Park expects record breaking attendance with over 14,000 students (kindergarten – eighth grade) from Metro Atlanta and North Georgia area schools planning to attend on the Thursday and Friday of the event. The school groups will have an opportunity to learn more about the Native American culture through interactive demonstrations and activities.

Guests can walk through the expanded living history tipi village, with tipi styles dating back to the 1800s. The village includes demonstrations such as fire starting, campfire cooking, brain tanning, hide scraping, flint napping, pottery making and demonstration of primitive tool technology. An East meets West Show and Encampment compares and contrasts lifestyles of the Southeastern and Plains Indians. The Pow Wow also draws some of the best dancers throughout the nation who compete for cash prizes by participating in high energy dance and drum competitions.

Guests can taste traditional Native American treats such as frybread, beans and roasted corn while observing award winning Cherokee artists. Live entertainment incorporating the Native American influence is scheduled throughout the weekend. Talent includes Okefenokee Joe, Tommy Wildcat and multi-time World Champion Hoop Dancer, Eddie Swimmer.

The festival schedule is as follows:
School visit days – Thursday, Nov. 1 & Friday, Nov. 2 from 9a.m.-2p.m.
General Public days – Saturday, Nov. 3 10a.m.-9p.m. & Sunday, Nov. 4 from 10a.m.-5p.m.

Admission is included with the Park’s One Day All Attraction Pass: Adults $25 (plus tax), Children $19 (plus tax) or with the purchase of an individual Plantation ticket, $9 (plus tax). A parking permit is required for vehicle entry to the park. One-day permits are $8; annual permits are $35.
