Stone Mountain Park Family Campground Named as one of Nation’s Best

Stone Mountain, GA- Stone Mountain Park’s Campground is one of only 215, listed in the 2005 Woodall’s North American Campground Directory, to attain the highest possible facilities and recreation rating. The criteria for the ratings were based on the company’s investment in the physical development of the park, personnel, recreation programs and top quality maintenance.  According to Ann Emerson, associate publisher for Woodall’s Annual Publications, the ratings are not easy to attain or keep, putting the Park into this very select group.

The Stone Mountain Park Family Campground combines the splendor of nature with as much or as little modern convenience as guests like. The grounds include 441 wooded campsites, many on the shores of beautiful Stone Mountain Lake. There are 144 sites with full hook-ups; 254 partial hook-ups with water and electricity (for tents, pop-ups and motor homes); and 43 primitive tent sites.  The campground offers a supply store, laundry facilities, volleyball court, playground and a swimming pool. “Our special activities, entertainment and Park attractions set us apart from other campsites,” said campground supervisor Dan Holloway. “Campers can plan their visit to include fun for the whole family.”

Throughout the peak months the Park offers activities such as morning fireside socials with complimentary doughnuts and coffee, family game nights, non-denominational church service every Sunday, holiday activities, ice cream socials and the Fall Festival-every Saturday in October. Campsites range from $23 to $45 per night.

Stone Mountain Park is Georgia’s most visited attraction, drawing nearly 4 million visitors each year.  With over 3,300 acres of natural beauty, the Park is a unique and fun destination where families and friends can enjoy the outdoors together, while experiencing an exciting variety of attractions, entertainment and recreation.  Visitors will travel back in time to the town of Crossroads®, where they’ll meet fascinating townsfolk and skilled crafters who will show them what life may have been like in an 1870s Southern town. Crossroads includes the new Treehouse Challenge – Atlanta’s Ultimate Kids’ Adventure, Tall Tales of the South® -Georgia’s only 4D theater, The Great Barn®  - Atlanta’s largest children’s indoor play experience and live shows & entertainment.

Other favorite attractions include: the Summit Skyride to the top of Stone Mountain (see the world’s largest free standing piece of exposed granite and world’s largest high relief carving,) the all new train experience “A Look Back Down the Tracks”, the Scarlett O’Hara Paddlewheel Riverboat, the Antebellum Plantation & Farmyard, the Antique Car & Treasure Museum, Discovering Stone Mountain Museum at Memorial Hall and Mini-Golf.  Guests will also enjoy the new Ride the Ducks adventure, unique shopping, great dining, 2 championship golf courses, Marriott hotels, a beautiful campground and more!
