Open from dawn till dusk, the walking trail to the top of the mountain is one of Park’s most popular activities, and for good reason! Once you trek to the top and reach 1,686 feet above sea level, you’ll take in incredible views of the city, reaching as far as 60 miles on a clear day.

Every member of the family will be awestruck by the landscape, as it is truly a sight to be seen. The hike is vigorous but doable by most family members, and for those that can’t hike, the Summit Skyride offers a quick way up the mountain so the whole family can enjoy the views together.

Pesca en el lago Stone Mountain

Nothing says family memories like fishing together! When you need fun things to do in Atlanta with family at Stone Mountain Park, fishing at Stone Mountain should certainly sit atop that list! Launch your boat at the private boat ramp near the Evergreen Pavilion, and then cast your line on the Park’s 323-acre lake.

Fishing is permitted from early morning through midnight, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Stone Mountain Lake. The waters are home to bass, carp, crappie, catfish, and bream—perfect for anglers of all levels.

Private boats are welcome during daylight hours, as long as they use motors with 10 horsepower or less and follow all park safety regulations.

To fish at the park, you’ll need a valid Georgia fishing license and either a daily or annual parking pass. Please note that fishing is not allowed from bridges, docks, golf courses, or beach areas.

Family Hiking Trails Around Stone Mountain

Get all of the kids’ energy out by strolling around on one of the seven hiking and walking trails. With varying difficulty levels and different lengths, there are 15 miles of hiking trails in all across the Park, from a three-quarter-mile Nature Garden Trail to the 5-mile Sendero Cherokee that encircles the entire mountain. The whole family is sure to enjoy the hike, and you might even get to see some local wildlife! Be sure to check the terrain, distance, and our hiking packing list recommendations before heading out.

Camping at Stone Mountain: Tents, RVs, & Glamping

Escape the hustle and reconnect with nature at the Stone Mountain Park Campground, one of the most scenic camping spots near Atlanta. Whether you’re looking for a traditional tent site, a spacious RV setup, or something more comfortable like a yurt o safari tent, there’s a perfect stay for every type of camper.

The campground offers access to Stone Mountain’s top attractions and includes family-friendly amenities like picnic tables, fire rings, a playground, sand volleyball, laundry facilities, and more. Online booking is available for all sites, so you can plan your stay with ease.
