Bring your students to Stone Mountain Park for an unforgettable field trip that combines hands-on education with all-day access to top attractions.

Students will enjoy a day of fun while participating in short, engaging educational sessions offered throughout the day. Teachers can choose which sessions to attend and build a schedule that works best for their group.

Educational Programs

How the Educational Programs Work

All Spring Field Trip educational programs are 20–30 minute interactive sessions that run 2–3 times per day.

Sessions are open to all participating groups. Teachers may decide which programs to attend based on interest, grade level, and schedule.

Groups may attend programs as one large group or divide into smaller groups to participate in different sessions throughout the day.

Curriculum

All About Dinosaurs

Explore the world of gentle herbivores and fierce carnivores while learning about life science, adaptation, and how organisms interact with their environment.

Curriculum Alignment:
Aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science for grades K–5, with a focus on life science, ecosystems, adaptation, fossils, and Earth’s history through hands-on investigation and scientific modeling.

The Rockline: Train Talk

All aboard! Learn how Stone Mountain Park’s Rock Line Railroad operates. Witness live, interactive demonstrations and signaling techniques led by our engineer. Discover what a diesel-electric locomotive is, when it was built and how it generates enough power to pull over 350 tons!

Aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science and Mathematics for grades K–5, with a focus on forces and motion, energy, measurement, and real-world engineering systems.

Science of Lasers

Discover how math, light, physics, and engineering come together to create Stone Mountain Park’s spectacular drone and laser show.

Aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science and Mathematics for grades K–5, with a focus on physical science, light and energy, forces and motion, measurement, and engineering design.

The Skyride: Soaring to New Heights

Learn how simple machines, motion, and forces power this iconic Swiss-designed cable car to the summit of Stone Mountain.

Curriculum Alignment:
Aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science and Mathematics, with grade-band connections to forces and motion, gravity, simple machines, measurement, and scientific practices.

Geology in Action

Dig into the geology and natural history of Stone Mountain and learn how this massive granite formation shaped the region.

Aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science for grades K–5, with a focus on Earth science, geology, ecosystems, and scientific investigation through direct observation of natural features.

A Forecast of Fun!

This program introduces students to the science of weather and meteorology through engaging demonstrations and interactive tools. Students explore wind, temperature, clouds, storms, and weather patterns while learning how scientists observe and predict the weather to help keep people safe.

History Programs at the Historic Square

Add-On Learning Stations: Georgia History In Action

In addition to scheduled programs, groups may explore interactive, self-guided Historical & Cultural Stations at the Historic Square featuring daily life, tools, food, education and play from Colonial Georgia through the Civil War era. These stations are designed for flexible pacing and allow students to engage through hands-on discovery at their own level.

Stations may include:

  • Woodworking (tools, techniques, and traditional crafts)
  • Cook House (foods, cooking systems, and daily life)
  • School House (Colonial Georgia through Antebellum/Civil War era learning)
  • Play the Past (hands-on games from the period)

These experiences reinforce GSE Social Studies and economic concepts through hands-on exploration.


Admission & Pricing

Group Student Ticket: $15.00 per student (plus tax, if applicable)

Chaperones

  • One free adult per 10 students (with pre-registration)
  • Additional adults pay the student rate
  • Tickets cannot be purchased on the day of the visit

Registration Requirements

  • Reservations & payment required at least 14 days in advance
  • Minimum group size: 15 students
  • Walk-up groups: Not permitted

Unpaid reservations will be canceled after the deadline.

Payment & Fees

  • Service charge: $14.99 per order
  • Late payment fee: Additional $10 if paid fewer than 14 days prior (total $24.99)
  • Refunds: Not available for unused portions
  • On-site payment: Not accepted for group rates
  • Prices do not include sales tax

Meal Tickets Available
Meal tickets may be purchased and redeemed at select park restaurants and include:

  • One entrée
  • One side
  • One drink

Bringing Your Own Lunch

  • Public picnic areas and Memorial Hall lawn available (first-come, first-served)
  • Picnic areas cannot be reserved
  • Food is not allowed inside attractions
  • Lunches must be kept on buses or carried by the group
  • No lunch storage available on park
  • Eating is not permitted in parking lots or on rock structures

Additional seating is available between the Museo del Salón Conmemorativo y Skyride Plaza.

Spring Field Trip Days are special Fridays for school groups to enjoy educational programs and all-day access to Stone Mountain Park attractions, all in a student-friendly environment.

When are Spring Field Trip Days held?

Spring Field Trip Days take place on Fridays, March 13, 20, and 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

What attractions are included with my ticket?

Your group ticket includes access to Stone Mountain Park atracciones including Dinosaur Explore, the 4D Theater, the Scenic Railroad, and the Summit Skyride, in addition to participating in any of the educational programs offered that day.

Do the programs align with Georgia Standards of Excellence?

Yes. All Spring Field Trip educational programs are designed to support select Georgia Standards of Excellence. Grade level and standards details are provided for each program.

How long are the educational programs?

Each educational program is a 20–30 minute session, designed to fit easily into your day while keeping students engaged.

How often are programs offered during the day?

Each program is offered multiple times per day (typically 2–3 sessions), giving teachers flexibility when planning their schedule. A daily schedule with program times and locations will be provided prior to your visit, making it easy to plan your day.

Do we need to pre-select which programs we will attend?

No. Teachers may decide on the day of their visit which sessions to attend based on availability and interest.

Can my group attend more than one educational program?

Yes. Groups may attend as many or as few sessions as they like, depending on their schedule and interests.

Are programs private to our school or shared with other groups?

Programs are open sessions and may include students from multiple schools attending Spring Field Trip Days.

Do we have to attend programs as one large group?

Do programs replace attraction time?

Is this structure good for mixed grade levels?

Yes. The flexible session format works well for mixed-grade groups, allowing teachers to choose sessions most appropriate for their students.

How much does a Spring Field Trip cost?

Student tickets are $15 per student (plus tax, if applicable). This includes educational programming and all-day attraction access.

Are chaperones required, and are they free?

Yes, chaperones are required. You will receive one complimentary adult ticket for every 10 students when you pre-register. Additional adults may attend at the student rate.

How far in advance do we need to book?

The earlier the better! Reservations and full payment must be completed at least 21 days prior to your visit date. Unpaid reservations will be canceled after the deadline.

Is there a minimum or maximum group size?

A minimum of 15 students is required to qualify for group pricing. There is no maximum group size.

Can we purchase tickets on the day of our visit?

No. Walk-up groups and same-day ticket purchases are not permitted for Spring Field Trip Days.

What are our lunch options?

Groups may purchase meal tickets valid at select park restaurants or bring their own lunches to enjoy in public picnic areas. Lunches must be kept on buses or carried by the group, as on-site storage is not available.

Is parking included?

Parking is free for buses and motor coaches with pre-paid tickets and a final booking confirmation. Personal vehicles (including chaperones traveling separately) must purchase a $20 parking permit or have an annual parking pass.
