Water Fun at Stone Mountain Park

When you spend time in Georgia during the summer, you will want to find ways to cool off. There are plenty at Stone Mountain Park, from the 323-acre lake to family-friendly water attractions. Check out the park’s beautiful scenery and experience water fun in the sun during your visit!

Play in the Spray at Geyser Splash Pad

Bring the whole family to Stone Mountain Park and play around at Geyser Splash Pad. Parents can relax in the shade while the kids enjoy the spray of multiple offshoots bubbling along the surface and little ones can splash in the trickling creek. Look out for sporadic eruptions from the gushing geyser that sends water shooting into the air to splash you when you least expect it! Purchase an annual Mountain Membership or single-day Attractions Ticket to enjoy unlimited access to Geyser Splash Pad and other nearby attractions. Don’t forget to slather on your sunscreen and wear closed-toe shoes at this cool water attraction.

Fish on Stone Mountain Lake

Bring your rod and reel and set up on the shores of Stone Mountain Lake and Venable Lake for some of the best fishing spots in Georgia. Stone Mountain Lake and its offshoots are home to five types of fish: bass, bream, carp, catfish, and crappie. There are plenty of great places to fish at Stone Mountain Park, whether by foot or on a boat. Take the Cherokee Trail along the east side of Stone Mountain, and you will pass by streams that feed into Stone Mountain Lake. King’s Trail at Indian Island is also a popular place for fishing. This easy, family-friendly trail is near the Covered Bridge and has parking and picnic benches available nearby. Check out the Trail of the Muscogee for more challenging terrain that will take you along many twists and turns for incredible scenic views of the lake. Fishing is permitted from 6:00 am until midnight, and all you need for a day of fishing at Stone Mountain Park is a Georgia fishing license.

Boat on the Lake

Bring your boat to Stone Mountain Park and explore the waters of Stone Mountain Lake. From your boat, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery as you pass by oak and hickory forests, spot native Georgia wildlife, and even get a special view of the lake’s namesake mountain. Small fishing boats or boats with motors at ten horsepower or less are allowed in Stone Mountain Lake. Access the lake via the boat ramp near the Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort and Evergreen Pavilion.

Kayak or Paddle Board on the Lake

Bring your canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard and explore the beauty of Stone Mountain Park from the lake! You can also rent a kayak (single or double) or a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) right at the park from July to October (weather permitting). All of these watersports make for a great workout and summer adventure! Please note that swimming is not allowed in Stone Mountain Park waters.

Swim at Stone Mountain Lodging Sites

Spend the night camping under the stars at Stone Mountain Park Campground, or settle in at the historic Stone Mountain Inn or luxurious Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort.
