Walk Up the Mountain

Open from dawn till dusk, the walking trail to the top of the mountain is one of Park’s most popular activities, and for good reason! Once you trek to the top and reach 1,686 feet above sea level, you’ll take in incredible views of the city, reaching as far as 60 miles on a clear day. Every member of the family will be awestruck by the landscape, as it is truly a sight to be seen. The hike is vigorous but doable by most family members, and for those that can’t hike, the Summit Skyride offers a quick way up the mountain so the whole family can enjoy the views together.

Fishing on Stone Mountain Lake

Nothing says family memories like fishing together! When you need fun things to do in Atlanta with family at Stone Mountain Park, fishing at Stone Mountain should certainly sit atop that list! Launch your boat at the private boat ramp near the Evergreen Pavilion, and then cast your line on the Park’s 323-acre lake. Fishing is permitted during daylight hours, and the lake is full of bass, carp, crappie, catfish, and bream. All you need to fish at Stone Mountain is a daily or annual parking pass and a valid Georgia Fishing license!

Hiking Trails

Get all of the kids’ energy out by strolling around on one of the seven hiking and walking trails. With varying difficulty levels and different lengths, there are 15 miles of hiking trails in all across the Park, from a three-quarter-mile Nature Garden Trail to the 5-mile Cherokee Trail that encircles the entire mountain. Picnics

Plan your picnic at the Park at one of our two picnic spots. The Studdard Picnic Area is the largest public picnic area within the Park with around 200 tables and several public grills. The Triangle Picnic Area is closer to the Crossroads area of the Park, giving you quick access to so many fun things to do in Atlanta with family at Stone Mountain Park. Surrounded by lush greenery, these picnic areas are a hidden gem for a family meal. Tables and grills are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis.

Historical and Environmental Education Center

You and your kids will love to learn about the geology and ecology of Stone Mountain. Stop by the 5,400 square feet of interactive exhibit space, located at the bottom of the walk-up trail, to watch films and see real artifacts on display. You can learn about how the carving on Stone Mountain came to be, the origin of the mountain itself, and so much more!

Things to Do with Toddlers in Atlanta at Stone Mountain Park

For parents searching for things to do in Atlanta, Stone Mountain Park offers a wide range of attractions, activities, and entertainment for the whole family. If you have a toddler or two, you know that it can be hard to find things to do with toddlers that the whole family will enjoy, and it’s important to know what’s safe and kid-friendly. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of toddler-friendly activities you can do all within Stone Mountain Park!

Geyser Towers

During the warmest weekends of the year, generally from March through November, toddlers and big kids alike can play in the spray! Kids over 32 inches can climb on suspended rope bridges and nets with adult supervision to get more access to gushing eruptions of cooling water. Kids of any age and height can play on the ground level in the trickling creek. In the cooler months, the water turns off, providing a dry, suspended playground.

SkyHike®

Our treetops course is one of the largest in the nation and is perfect for kids of all ages. The adventure course is a quarter of a mile long, with three different levels of adventure and challenges. Although kids must be 44 inches tall to climb on the big course that’s up above, there is a toddler play space on the ground where they can tackle toddler-size variations of the above obstacles. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and wear closed-toe shoes.

Dinosaur Explore and Dinotorium

Everyone loves dinosaurs, and every member of your family will absolutely love Dinosaur Explore! Bring your little one to interact with twenty life-sized roaring dinosaurs. After you pose for a picture with their favorite dino, stop by the Dinotorium, an indoor play space and dino lover’s paradise. You’ll find huge slides, trampolines, climbing structures, and over 65 interactive games.

Summit Skyride

Open daily, the famous Skyride is the rock’s top attraction. Take a five-mile excursion around the mountain in our full-size 1940s locomotives with open-air cars.
