Easter Sunrise Service

Experience serenity and peace as Stone Mountain Park presents two simultaneous, inter-denominational Easter services at the top of the mountain and at the base of the mountain on the Memorial Lawn.

Special guests Bryant Wright and Crawford Loritts will be delivering the message at the top of the mountain. He is also the President of the international relief organization, Send Relief. He retired as the founding Senior Pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in 2019. EVENT HISTORY

The event began in 1944 before the land around Stone Mountain was officially owned by the State of Georgia. Lucille A. Lanford, from Stone Mountain First United Methodist Church, suggested that the church’s youth group climb to the top of Stone Mountain on Easter morning to watch the sunrise. The event grew from that one youth group to thousands ascending the mountain every Easter since.

TICKETS

Vehicle entry to the park is $20 for a one-day permit or $40 for an annual permit. Church vans and buses enter free. Skyride fees are $20 for round-trip and $15 for one-way. There are no fees for the walk-up trail to the top of the mountain.

Visitors planning to stay the whole day can enjoy all of Stone Mountain Park’s family-friendly attractions, including access to the Skyride, with an Attractions Ticket.

A Tour of Southern Ghosts

Join the Atlanta family tradition and meet professional storytellers spinning their tales of famous (and not-so-famous) Southern Ghosts along the lantern-lit paths of the Historic Square grounds at Stone Mountain Park.

“A Tour of Southern Ghosts” is held during the Halloween season so the stories are a little scary, many times humorous, but never too frightening and always appropriate for young children. Each night offers a different cast of six storytellers, which means audience members may return to “A Tour of Southern Ghosts” on additional nights to hear a new collection of stories. Call the number below for each night’s featured storytellers.

All proceeds benefit the ongoing programs of ART Station, a non-profit contemporary arts center located in Stone Mountain Village in the City of Stone Mountain. Founded in 1986, ART Station provides cultural and educational opportunities for the entire community, focusing its programming on quality southern works of art and artists.

For additional information regarding “A Tour of Southern Ghosts” or ART Station programming, please call 770-469-1105 or visit artstation.org.

Stone Mountain Highland Games

Since 1972, the picturesque grounds of the Stone Mountain Park meadow, a short drive northeast of Atlanta, Georgia, have resounded with the sounds of bagpipes, fiddles and harps during the third weekend in October.

Each year, thousands of Scots (even those that wish to be ‘Scot for the Day’) from around the world will don their family tartans and gather to greet old friends and make new ones too.

One of the premier Scottish festivals in the US, Stone Mountain Highland Games will feature colorful pipe bands, Scottish Athletics, Piping and Drumming competitions, Highland dancers competing before judges of worldwide renown, Country Dancing, Scottish Harping and Fiddling. Scottish foods and drink, clan tents and vendors selling lovely goods imported from the British Isles, and Celtic performers are also a part of this traditional gathering.
